Brandeis University, college planning, college consultants, counselors, educational consultantsMile 1,300 of our crazy college road trip was limited to “drive bys,” as the temperature soared to 100 degrees.  Okay–I am exaggerating–it was 98 degrees. Also, we did not have any scheduled tours today.  So, on our way to Providence, we drove through Brandeis University.  Set in suburban Waltham, Massachusetts, the campus is lovely.   As a relatively new college (it was founded in 1948–the same year the State of Israel was born)–the college buildings are mostly tastefully modern.  One exception is the replica of a Scottish castle that serves as a dorm.

Brandeis has a terrific neuroscience department – a very popular field right now.   It also has great programs on international relations with a particular focus on the Middle East.  Also, the three equal sized multi-denominational chapels give testament to the fact that Brandeis is no longer just for Jewish students.  In fact, it is only 55 % Jewish, pretty amazing for the only school founded as a secular Jewish school in the U.S.   Brandeis looks worthy of further exploration.
